Brookson Comments on Government’s Industry Consultation

07 December 2006

Following the Chancellor’s Pre-Budget Statement, Martin Hesketh, the MD of Brookson, comments on the decision to launch the consultation process ‘Tackling Managed Services Companies’.

Martin comments, “We have long recognised the need for systems to be put in place within our industry to ensure all individuals not only pay the appropriate amount of tax, but also that their employment rights are protected.”

“Through the consultation process and draft legislation announced yesterday, which will run between now and the 2nd March 2007, the Government seeks to tackle non-compliant managed service providers in the industry. It does not, however, look to penalise those individuals who are not disguised employees – such as Brookson’s members. ”

“We have provided support services to genuinely self employed contractors for over ten years now through several changes in legislation, and our strong commitment to compliance was demonstrated earlier this year when we received formal HMRC approval of our processes and procedures.”

“We will continue to engage extensively with the Government during this consultation period to ensure that the rights of our members are adequately protected, and to ensure that our processes and systems continue to operate within the legal boundaries set to allow us to provide a compliant service to our members for years to come.”
