What is an Umbrella Company?

When working via an Umbrella Company you are an employee and therefore taxed as such with PAYE and National Insurance contributions being retained by the Umbrella Company. This is balanced out by the fact that you retain the flexibility of being able to choose the assignments you want to work on and claim certain expenses such as travel, subsistence and professional subscriptions. Most of the payroll and other administration is done by the Umbrella Company, so this is a hassle free way of working.
