Contractors 'should not be treated badly during recession'
02 July 2009Contractors and freelancers should not be treated unfairly in a recession, a recruitment agency has said.
Ashley Cooper, of contractor IT agency Parc Ellis, told Contractor Calculator that recruitment agencies and freelancers rely on each other to provide them with business.
The consultant said that the impact of the recession has been seen throughout the contracting industry with daily rates and profit margins for agencies both reduced.
However, changes to regulations within the financial services sector and new technological developments mean the industry will become buoyant during the next two to three years, Mr Cooper explained.
He told the news provider: "We've seen plenty of boom and bust in IT contracting in only the last decade. Yes, this one has been tough, but without a doubt the market will bounce back. It's just a question of when. And we need to ensure there is a pool of good contractors ready to take up all the new contracts."
Meanwhile, IT contractors with Lloyds TSB have been told to cut their rates or face losing work.
