Contractors to become increasingly 'mobile'

19 October 2009

Self-employed contractors working as sole traders and through limited companies will become increasingly flexible, a communications expert has predicted.

Comments from Damovo UK followed research from Forrester that enterprise mobile workers will make up 73 per cent of the workforce by 2012.

Alex Donnelly, portfolio manager at Damovo UK, stated that the forecast is likely to become a reality as more people want to work flexibly instead of being restricted to a wired network access point.

He explained: "We communicate socially through, voice, SMS, email and social network updates on our mobiles. People are recognising what these tools can [do] and want to use them more in the corporate environment.

"It will create better business efficiencies and more flexible working for users."

A report from Nielsen showed that the number of people visiting the web using a mobile device increased by 34 per cent.

The figure went up from 42.5 million to 56.9 million in the 12 months to July 2009.
