The work of BAE Systems and its contractors in the north west has been praised by the government.
Ian Lucas, business minister, described the work of the skilled contractors and industry professionals at the BAE Systems site at Warton as crucial in helping the UK maintain its position as a global leader in the aerospace industry.
Work at the plant plays an integral part in the government's advanced manufacturing scheme, especially with the Typhoon programme, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills explained.
Typhoon is a fighter plane developed by engineers from UK, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Mr Lucas said: "It has been fantastic to see for myself BAE Systems' Typhoon final assembly facility and meet the skilled people working here.
"BAE Systems are a key part of advanced manufacturing in the UK and should be praised for the work they are doing to help maintain our position globally both in the industry and in supporting our armed forces."
The minister delivered a speech at the second Council of European Aerospace Societies conference in Manchester as part of his trip to the region.
