Multimedia freelancers to benefit from new bursary scheme
26 November 2009Posted by James Curtis
A new bursary scheme for freelance journalists looking for multimedia courses has been launched by Skillset.
Freelancers with an interest in working in the broadcasting industry will be able to apply for grants of up to £800 under the new multi-platform bursaries.
Courses on social media and shooting video for the web are included in the 38 pre-selected study programmes.
To be eligible for one of the 500 available places, potential freelancers must be able to demonstrate experience in the UK TV industry or wider creative media industries.
Suzanne Ashley, publishing sector manager at Skillset, said: "The onset of convergence between the television, digital, and interactive media industries is creating new challenges and demanding new skills from the workforce.
"Therefore, multi-platform skills have been identified by Skillset's Television Skills Council as a priority training area."
The council is made up of senior representatives from broadcasters, unions and independent producers.
Applications must be submitted by March 26th 2010.
