Supply outstripping demand for IT workers, REC claims
11 March 2010Posted by James Curtis
Contractors working in the UK's IT sector could be among those hoping for a boost in recruitment following the release of a new report.
There are currently more IT professionals than there are jobs in IT, according to the latest Technology Demand and Supply study from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
However, the report also indicated that demand for such professionals is set to rise, with employers looking for workers with knowledge and skills in Linux, SQL, C# and NET.
Jeff Brooks, chair of REC Technology said: "It is very encouraging to see that companies will still invest in technology to develop their businesses even when there is a tough economic landscape.
"I look forward to the upturn developing at an even stronger rate in the months ahead."
According to the report, which was conducted by e-skills UK, there were 1.04 million IT professionals in the UK at the end of 2009, a four per cent fall when compared to 2008.
