CIOT appeals for greater changes to corporation tax rules

The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has appealed to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for greater changes to corporation tax legislation.

In a public letter to the department, the CIOT blamed HMRC for making only one change to the draft amendments of the Finance Act 2009.

A consultation draft had been published on August 1st after a previous edition had been proposed in December 2009.

The CIOT claimed that the legislation is virtually identical to the previous draft and does not contain any suggestions made by the financial body.

"Our comments were mostly of a technical nature that we saw as improving the legislation," the letter read.

It noted that the CIOT is not seeking to change the underlying policy, but "merely raising technical issues in an attempt to make the legislation workable and the accompanying explanatory notes understandable".

When the legislation is brought to parliament, the changes could affect people working as limited companies in UK industries.
