Contractors urged to switch to unified storage

Sole traders and UK contractors have been told that unified storage is suitable for small operations.

This is according to Bob Plumridge, chairman of SNIA Europe, a trade organisation that works to educate businesses on the evolution and application of storage infrastructure solutions for the data centre.

By switching to unified storage, he said businesses are able to make best use of the available capacity - "so hopefully driving up the overall utilisation rates".

"And also," Mr Plumridge explained, "it helps greatly with the management, because they're only having to manage one or two physical things rather than multiple devices."

He added that unified storage is more efficient than other formats, explaining that by being able to move utilisation rates upwards, "you're not paying out on power and cooling and floor space and capacity that's not being used".

For the larger organisations, of course, these benefits start to multiply.
