Business could increasingly need the services of specialist IT contractors in the near future because technological advancements have created a skills gap in their own work force.
This is according to Erik Brynjolfsson, director of the MIT Center for Digital Business and co-author of the book, Race Against The Machine.
He believes that computer technology is evolving at a rate of knots but the levels of skills needed to operate the systems is now beginning to lag well behind.
This is leading to firms suffering unnecessary disruptions and could be the trigger point for many businesses to call in expert IT workers, who can not only get things flowing again but also provide technical support to those employees struggling to get to grips with the technology.
“I think it is going to lead to more and more discourse as we get this growing disconnect between technological capabilities and our own skills and organisations,” Mr Brnjolfsson said.
