Contractors working through a limited company north of the border could be encouraged by the recent comments of the UK's leading recruitment industry body.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) recently met with officials in Scotland to discuss a number of challenges faced by the recruitment sector.

Andrew Tomlinson, REC policy and pr executive, explained that while many recognise the work of recruiters through their dealings with businesses and jobseekers, the REC can play a vital role in shaping the regulatory system.

"There is growing recognition for the role that recruiters play - not just through the service they provide every day to businesses and jobseekers but also by informing the political debate on skills and employment policy," he explained.

"Building links with organisations such as the Scotland Office is a crucial part of amplifying the industry's voice and ensuring that we are at the forefront of the policy agenda."

Lisa Boutineau, director of REC Scotland, added that the organisation will run a number of "targeted campaigns" in order to overcome the various challenges faced by recruiters and employers around the country.
