UK contractors working as sole traders in the UK's engineering sector could be among those to benefit from plans to increase the size of Jaguar Land Rover's UK operations.
According to a recent report in The Telegraph, the firm is currently in discussions to double the size of its Merseyside plant.
This would create another 1,500 jobs at the location, some of which could require the expertise of highly-skilled contractors.
The Halewood plant is already one of the largest in the UK and the expansion plans could help ease fears of an economic slowdown.
Demand for the firm's Range Rover Evoque has seen the plant stretched to full capacity and the expansion plans would allow the manufacturer to keep pace with rising demand for its products.
The news comes shortly after a PCG report showed that almost a quarter of UK contractors believe that 2012 will bring more opportunities than last year.
