IT contractors, as well as those working in new media and marketing, are having to increase their skills in mobile technologies.
According to a new study conducted as a joint venture between Freelancer.co.uk and ContractorCalculator, the requirements of firms are moving away from marketing via social media and search engine optimisation to gearing up their online presence on devices such as tablets and smartphones.
Freelancer.co.uk chief executive, Matt Barrie, said: “User activity is moving to mobile devices and the trend won’t be reversing any time soon, as the other five billion people on this planet join the internet, primarily through mobile.”
The website found that the number of projects for smartphone development, including the creation and upkeep of apps, posted in the second quarter of this year rose by 36 per cent on the previous three months.
However, search engine optimisation projects and link building fell by 7.3 and 8.3 per cent respectively.
