Contractors working in the oil and gas sector have never had better safety standards than they have today.
That’s according to the latest Health & Safety Report from Oil & Gas UK which showed that the facilities used by offshore workers are well maintained.
Oil & Gas UK also said that it will be providing oil and gas contractors with an annual offshore safety guide from now on which will also include details of new projects and initiatives.
“The report serves to underline the fact that the UK has one of the most robust offshore health and safety regimes in the world,” explains Oil & Gas UK’s health and safety director Robert Paterson.
“Despite being a major hazard industry, the oil and gas sector is outperforming many other UK sectors in terms of non-fatal injuries to workers – with only education and finance doing better.”
Last week, the Oil & Gas UK 2012 Economic Report revealed that companies working in the oil and gas sector contribute around £11.2 billion to the treasury in direct taxes and around £6 billion in corporation tax.
