Warrington Collegiate Apprenticeship Interview

On Tuesday 31st January, Warrington Collegiate came to visit Brookson and interviewed some of our apprentices and also HR Director Peter Metcalf, to see the video of Peter's interview please click here.

Why did you choose to go to Warrington Collegiate for your apprenticeship?

Jack: It’s local and therefore really easy to get to, plus I’ve heard great things about it and with the new refurbishment it should be great!
Emma: Well I was interested in doing accountancy and didn’t really know where to start so when I looked into courses, Collegiate was the one that stood out for me.

Why did you choose AAT?

Jack:  It goes into detail with all the things that I missed at A-level, instead of being very year-end accounts based it is more focused.
Emma:  It was the quickest way to get to where I wanted to be without going to university – it is a great alternative, covered all the courses I needed and gave me a great start in accountancy in general.

And what do you think of the course?

Jack: Well I’ve only had the one lesson but all my classmates are a good bunch so yeah I’m really enjoying it so far, and my tutor is great.
Emma: I like the way it’s structured and how it’s very relatable to what I’m doing at the minute - the stuff I’m learning when I’m there is stuff I can come into work the next day and do.

What do you plan on doing when you complete your Level 2?

Jack: Hopefully go on to get my Level 3 and Level 4, to complete my full AAT. After that I’d like to do the ACCA.
Emma: Move on to Level 3, Level 4 and then my Chartered Accountancy.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

Jack: I’ve wanted to be an accountant since I was about 14 so that’s exactly what I want to do.
Emma: It is accountancy so right now I’m in the job I want to be in – it’s perfect for me.

If you had a top tip for a student thinking of doing the AAT or becoming an accountancy apprentice, what would it be?

Jack: Keep organised, always have your folder up to date then it is easy to revise from it.
Emma: Do your research first, know what you want to study and look at what the best option is for you. Having a plan in place always helps.
