BI Analyst

Role Purpose

Working within the IS Department the role holder will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and production of reports and data sets throughout the business. They will be technically strong in the areas of effective data management, efficient report writing and have the ability to provide meaningful data analytics and insights throughout all areas and levels of the business.

They will maintain the current methods and establish new approaches to reporting, data insights and management which will enable the business to use its data to provide an enhanced, world class customer service and enable it to exceed its position in the market. The role holder will be comfortable using the latest enterprise data platforms and methodologies, next generation technologies and innovative tools to drive the business forward.

Role Accountabilities

  • Support, encourage and develop a culture of personal and professional pride, innovation and advance within the team and the wider business
  • Support the BAU activities for any report, dashboard or data set requests
  • Responsible for assisting with the delivery of management information requests and working closely with Directors, Managers and Team Leaders in all areas of the business
  • Creation and management of data insight solutions including any associated data sets, reports or dashboards
  • Support and assist in any projects throughout the business that requires data insights or reports
  • Assist in the delivery of the design and production of top down MI views of the operational areas taking into account Director, Manager and Team Leader needs
  • Develop, analyse and present information for key operational activities
  • Designing and implementing data integration and data conversion solutions in line with batch or real-time information delivery
  • Support the design, configuration, optimisation, monitoring and maintenance of the business’ data and reporting platforms
  • Responsible for the development of information in key operational processes and activities
  • Making meaningful recommendations to potential process improvements, evidenced and supported by data
  • Designing and implementing enterprise data and reporting architectures including supporting the design, implementation and eventual maintenance of the new Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Support the development of strategies and roadmaps for BI and Analytics solutions
  • Developing data governance, quality processes and related business operating models
  • Defining end-user reporting, analytics and dashboard frameworks from requirement definition through to end user deployment
  • Responsible for the understanding of operational processes, identifying the need for information around the business and using modern methods to optimise performance in reporting and report presentation
  • Any other duties that are deemed necessary to support the business when required

Role Relationships

The role holder will report to the IS Manager and work closely with the Database Administrator. They will play a vital part in the technical team within the department. The role holder will be required to support other operational functions and will therefore have daily interactions throughout all levels of the business and other internal departments. The role holder will also be expected to have contact with external suppliers. They must therefore be an excellent communicator and ensure that the Brookson values are demonstrated by their behaviours and attitudes.

Essential technical skills and experience:

 o At least two years MSSSQL experience (SQL2012 and above) including:

  • Understanding of SQL Server Database Schema and SQL Server Database Objects
  • Ability to extract data efficiently using T-SQL
  • Understanding of SQL Server Indexes
  • Understanding of performance implications from large data extracts
  • Ability to test different extract methodologies to work around database structures and performance bottlenecks

o At least two years SSRS experience (SQL2012 and above) including:

  • Deploying reports
  • Reports with multi-value parameters
  • Reports with drilldowns, drill down objects and sub reports
  • Creating dashboards

o Ability to develop efficient and effective TSQL

o Understanding of SQL Server Index creation & usage


Desirable technical skills and experience:


o Experience of SSISo Experience of working with an Enterprise Data Warehouse (SSIS & ETL methods)

o Any exposure to BI tools such as Tableau, Alteryx or PowerBI

o Any exposure to Microsoft Navision or Dynamics CRM

o Microsoft Excel (2010 and above)

  • Embedding Stored Procedures
  • Ability to use VBA
