Self-discipline is one of the most important things to have when you’re a freelancer or sole trader.

This is according Freelance Folder’s trusted expert Laura Spencer, who points out that when you work for yourself, it is up to you to get things done as there is nobody checking up on you like in a normal job.

“To be frank, most clients don’t care if you write that article, design that logo, or translate that document during the day or in the middle of the night. As long as you respond to communications and meet your deadlines, you’re good to go,” she said.

“This flexibility can be a blessing, but it can also be a hardship for some freelancers who aren’t skilled at effectively managing their time.”

She added that falling behind or leaving work for another time is a common trap that many freelancers fall into, but if you set yourself a manageable schedule it is something which can easily be avoided.
